My mother in law said she would have identfied what La Mer depicted without reading the programme in advance.?

I argue with her that most listeners, even experts, generally could not correctly guess the composers programme for most tone poems, symphonies etc.

La Mer and other tone poems have been so ripped off over the years, especially for film, and cartoons, that we have those visual associations with the COPIES -so when we hear the original, we go AHAH! Less-popular tone poems, or those with more arcane association, would of course be harder. But those gushing, flowing effects - pretty easy one. Think of Great Gate at Kiev - sounds like something bag, massive, formidable - power, army, stone - but that is another easy one.

Think Planets - then all the outer-space things that John Williams wrote. Or Copland - Appalachian Spring - and then all the Marlboro-man westerns and their music. It goes on and on . . .

I've heard that the sooner isn't the better... I don't know. It seems that using it when you're this young wouldn't do anything (at least anything super noticable)

Proper warming technique for Creme de la Mer application?

I did a lot of googling on the proper technique for using Creme de la Mer. Most people say to use a tiny amount (half a pea size) and rub vigorously between the hands for several seconds before dabbing on the face.

The problem is, when I rub for a few seconds, the cream disappears as it is sucked up my the skin in my hands. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to use massive amounts because it is so expensive, but I also don't want to apply it incorrectly and end up breaking out.

I was thinking about microwaving a spoonful in an empty lip balm tub and using that for a week so that I don't have to waste time in the morning.

Do not put that product in a microwave, the radiation will turn the positive ions in the product negative and you will loose some of the effectiveness the product.

You can either make a double boiler to heat it. Using a metal ramekin a pea size drop of the cream in then float the ramekin in a glass bowl full of hot water. After about a minute it will heat the metal ramekin and the product. You can buy these ramekins at Ikea, and kitchen stores.

If your going to warm it in your hands only put it on your finger tips and backs. They are less absorbentant than the palms of your hands. Warm it up there and you won't loose much of the product.

It's a great generic moisturizer but here is an industry tip a little goes a long way so buy the eye cream instead of the moisturizer. It's the same product and you will save 60 bucks. Then ask for samples of the face cream and you'll be set.

I worked in this industry for a long time and the beauty companies don't like the consultants to give samples unless the customer buys a product. Samples are actually expensive and not regarded as a gratuity. They are given as a way to create a sale to people that are serious buyers.

La Mer is very expensive first off...something in the range of $400- $1500 for small amounts(eg; 3 - 8oz). It's supposedly good but I can almost gaurantee nothing probably beats a balanced diet, plenty water and moderate excersice through the years. :)

I've tried Lamer cream.

i can used it only at night as night cream coz it's texture is thick and rich when I'm in tropical country.

But when i was in south Africa and it was dry and cold during winter, it's really moisturizing.

Yes, I have tried it. I thought it was great. Not greasy, absorbed into the skin quite readily and I thought it made a difference to the texture of my skin.

That depends on the product you are looking for. All three companies have good products, it depends on which one you are looking for. Some of La Mer's products are really great. They use really quality raw materials (I am particularly attached to this brand as I used to be an R%26amp;D technician for a company who manufactures product for La Mer). I also like Origins for cosmetics and body care. They also have a great pimple spot treatment. I find they aren't always on top of the trends and latest treatments for skincare. Philosophy has great marketing for their products, fantastic packaging and a great lineup of items. Many people have had good luck with their line, especially Hope in A Jar. It depends on what your skin concerns are, aging? wrinkles? texture? blemishes? You need to research the various products and then try them. Ask for samples, don't feel bad about it. Trying a product once isn't enough, use it for two-three weeks and see if there are results. Tamara, I'm not familiar w/the brands you mentioned; however, I love the aularale.com/7002. Theirs is for people w/sensitive skin and is light and gives a very natural, but enhanced look.

I have used the La Mer original Creme De la Mer, The Oil control Creme De La Mer, The La Mer Serum, The La Mer Lip balm, the lamer gel cleanser, the lamer face scrub, la mer oil absorbing tonic (toner),the La mer hand treatment,and the La mer eye balm. I've also used the new La Mer Lifting face serum and lifting intensifier. So I've pretty much sampled the line. Here's what I've found.

This line isn't going to do much for you if you don't have lines. If you are young with already smooth skin then the cream and serum aren't really going to do more than moisturize your skin and make it soft. I will say it's phenomenol at healing chemical burns on the face or overexfoliation damage.

If you are over 30 you'll like this stuff. The creams I don't think are worth the cash unless you have a chemical burn or damage from over exfoliation. The serum is really great at smoothing fine lines and making your skin soft. The eye cream is the BEST eye cream I have ever used. If you use it with the serum not only will your lashes become less brittle and thicker but lines and puffiness around the eyes are leveled. LOVE THE EYE CREAM!

The scrub is very basic. It's not horribly expensive so if you must than try it but i found it rather abrasive. Diamond particles?? Diamonds can cut glass, do you really want to subject your delicate skin to that?

The cleanser was stinky and felt drying. Hated it. The toner was nothing special, don't bother.

The lip balm was really nice and had a nice minty flavor. It was one of my favorite lip balms. It did seem to smooth around my lips and moisturize really well.

The hand cream was really really nice. If you can find it on ebay for a discount price it's worth it. I loved it. My hands looked much better after using it.

The new lifting serum and intensifier are amazing! They are both truly worth the cash. You can buy sample sizes on ebay to try. If you are over 30 you'll love this stuff. It really lifts and tightens. My mother is in her mid-50's and has bags under her eyes. So far nothing gets rid of them until I gave her some of this. The bags were instantly gone. It was truly amazing! If you aren't in your 50's and you want some lift and line smoothing it's much cheaper to go with a line called Dermitage. Look them up on the internet. For 30 somethings their face cream is amazing. You still can't beat the la mer eye balm mixed with the serum though.

Overall, they are like all skincare lines. They have a few phenomenol items and a few that are just blah. They target a very specific skin type. I'd say for most of the line you have to be 30 with signs of aging showing or mid to late 40's and on to really enjoy this line. Although the eye cream, hand cream, and lip balm everyone can enjoy.
i have used la mer skin creme and honestly never felt the urge to buy more. i didn't see much of a difference at all. i did see dramatic changes with infinite aloe though! i have gone through dozens of jars of this stuff.
It made my skin a little better but nothing a good normal moisturizer can't do. I used it while I was able to get samples but I don't think the price is worth it at all.

Yes, it can clog pores. And no, noone can guarantee a perfect result.

It does have a slightly higher ';cure'; rate than many other acne products, but there isn't a single product of any type anywhere in the world that can actually show a 100% success-rate of happy, cured customers, and none that can leave you a 100% guarantee of success. Sadly :/

Johnson's baby lotion is fine if you're 6 months old, don't go for something the opposite end of the scale just because Creme De La Mer wasn't right for you. Get proper advice from a beauty therapist and invest in a basic skin care routine using products with decent anti-ageing ingredients, ie: collagen, elastin, DNA, hylaronic acid etc etc. As a salon owner CDLM isn't my choice either but if you get the right products for you then they do make a difference and help prevent further ageing.Creme de la mer?
Thankfully I was able to snag a LOT of samples before buying it and I agree. IT was just hype plugged by celebrities..
A friend gave me a sample of Creme De La Mer face creame and I have to say I would have been worried about putting it on my dogs face, its very thick and gloopy and not the sort of thing I would use, I prefer good old Nivea and lots of water to drink each day, without water in your system your skin becomes dehydrated and starts to sag, no amount of any face cream will work if you don't keep your skin hydrated, I'm 50 I have really good skin and haven't got a single wrinkle I am proud to say.
i havent tried it, but have heard that its more suitable for very dry skin as its apparantly a very rich, and heavy cream.id go for something containing peptides, the latest skincare ingrediant people are raving about.Olays Regenerist contains this, and is quite reasonably priced.

Absolutely. I recieved a sample and was surprised that it was just really really expensive gloop.

It didn't soak into my face, and sort of congealed with my concealer so I had to wipe it all off and start over. SO glad I didn't invest in a pot.

I find that cetaphil works just fine, lol. I've tried buying some of the most expensive creams out there on the market but I still go back to cetaphil. Not because of the price but because I find that it works best.

CREME DE LA MER? Is it that great?

I've been thinking of buying creme de la mer since I don't moisterize and I think I need one. It's the most coveted cream in the world apparently and I'd rather get a cream that will really do the job. Has anybody here ever used creme de la mer? could you tell me your experience with it as i'm curious because it is 88 quid for just 30ml! xCREME DE LA MER? Is it that great?
Yes I get mine from e-bay. I definitely can tell a difference in my skin's tone and texture. I am 29 and have no wrinkles at all! Honey, it is definitely worth the money. Once you start using it you will notice that your skin is much softer, scars fade, and wrinkles go away.

Also, a little goes a long way. I know the instructions say to rub between your fingers and then apply, but I use a q-tip and dab it in little spots all over my face- focusing mainly on the eye area. Then I rub it all in. Works great! Hope this helps!

I have. I used their serum and the original creme. The serum was great but the creme is pretty heavy - good for pre-bedtime as it can look a little oily. It is AMAZING for rejuvenating lips though - I have one of the tiny sample pots (not the creme for lips, just basic creme).

One point though, I don't use it all the time as it is too expensive - I wait for gifts! And recent tests done in the UK have proven that it doesn't really have any effect on wrinkles - no more than any moisturiser.

Yes I have used this product and it is REALLY rich. It is so moisturising that I use it on my body and not my face because my face becomes all greasy from all the extra oils and stuff. If you have eczema or another skin condition this product is totally worth it.

It is definately worth the money, because it is infused with pure, natural ingredients instead of mixing it up with alcohol chemicals. Yes, it has changed my skin; for a year now I've been using dermatologist products plus La Mer cream after an exfoliating mask, and it has seriously done great wonders for my skin...from turning it grimy and dry to clean, silky, and flawless.

What I really like about La Mer is two things: where it's made and what it's made of. French lines are always great quality stuff; and yes, brands like Shiseido and Clinique are good and all, but they are mixed with clay, some nutrients, and a lot of chemicals. But La Mer is made of the purest, oceanside ingredients.

Honestly, it does work, but not for the price that it is. At $110 for an ounce...you can buy Oil of Olay at the drugstore and save $90! Keep it simple...the best creams are the ones that are naturally based. Neutrogena for Sensitive Skin makes one of the best lotions in my opinion.

La Mer is very nice - I've used it a lot but honestly I can't say that it's the holy grail of face creams. Yes, it's gotten a lot of press but you are looking for a good face cream - that will moisturize. I think then it depends on what else you want it to do - anti aging, etc. La Prairie is an excellent brand (I'm not specifically quoting a cream because there are several - each does something else). There are also the cosmesceuticals which are less expensive but really good!

Both La Mer/La Prairie are excellent and there are a lot of others also out there. I prefer La Prairie because it has additional benefits: my advice - go to the high-end shops and get samples. You should be able to get several tries out of each - if you are going to invest in a great skin cream, it's good to take it for a test spin!La Mer face cream, is it worth buying? Well i don't know about the La mer creme, but i use coconut oil on my face and body to moisturize. It is sooo hydrating and makes your skin feel so subtle and soft. I highly recommend. The best quality is organic coconut oil. It has no specific smell so its great! It comes in a solid form. Coconut oil has many health benefits as well.

I got a sample of it when I bought some stuff at Nieman Marcus. It is amazing! It made my skin glow and it felt like silk. It also canceled out all my redness and I noticed a more even skin texture in three weeks. I'm only 21, but I have prematurely aging skin (sensitivity, redness, spots) and this works so good! A little goes a long way! remember that. I can't believe how well it works! I personally can't afford it. If you are considering it, I would get that smallest jar possible, just to test it out, and if you like it, really splurge and get the 16 oz jar because you really are spending less money in the long run. If you are looking for a really good line or moisturizers that are less costly, then check out Dermalogica, Shiseido, or Dior. I use Dermalogica and it works great. Cate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, Vivica A. Fox, and Victoria Beckham all use Dermalogica. Although many celebrities with perfect skin use Creme De La Mer. It's worth the money if you have it, but if you don't, then check out some other options. Good luck with it!

La mer face cream what do you thing?

If you're referring to Creme de la Mer, it's definitely NOT worth the money. The list of ingredients are mostly seaweed extract, mineral oil, Vaseline, glycerin, wax-like thickening agents, plant oils, plant seeds, minerals, vitamins, more thickeners, and preservatives. Seaweed is not even scientifically proven to be ';anti-anything'; for facial care (per my old chemistry %26amp; biology professors). The Serum de la Mer is a little better in ratings, but I've never used it, and it does cost even more (about $175/oz or is it $185+ now due to inflation?). Although it does contain some good antioxidants, there are many other moisturizers with similar ingredients out on the market that cost MUCH less. Celebrities use it probably because of endorsements from the company.

For this similar price range of $150/1.7 oz., I would recommend Estee Lauder's Re-nutriv Intensive Lifting Creme. But overall, regardless of what the label says, whether it's ';lotion'; or ';creme'; or ';anti-wrinkle'; or ';anti-aging,'; keep this in mind: the more ';intensive'; the creme is, especially all the products labeled as ';anti-aging/anti-wrinkle,'; it just means it has more glycerin and water-binding agents (= thicker, more moisturizing). I purposely buy the more ';intense'; stuff during the winter months for that reason.

If you're seeking for truly intense antioxidants, you can get more for your money's worth if you buy the $90/bottle, highly-concentrated Vitamin C serum called Cellex-C. I have the highest concentration Cellex-C, combined with Donnell's Lightening Serum and exfoliating with AHA, and it works effectively on the brown spots, results from sun-damage. And forget Shiseido's Kojic Acid ';lightener'; ($120/tube %26amp; that price was 6 years ago), it doesn't work except burned my face. For Vitamin E, just buy the Vitamin E oil form from your local pharmacy ($5/bottle?) and mix it in with your nightly moisturizer. The overall best combo of antioxidant serum is Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair.

Most of all, ALWAYS be sure to look at the ingredients label: the higher the ingredient names are placed (especially if it's antioxidants placed within the first 5 or 7 listed), the higher the concentration a product contains of it. That will tell you if it's worth your money. Cosmetic companies can legally advertise Vitamin E or Vitamin C in big letters on the front of the box, but if you see it placed as the last 1 or 2 (or towards the last half) ingredient on this list, it would not do you any good anyway.La mer face cream what do you thing?

Blackened Catfish a La Mer

36 ounces catfish fillets

2 tablespoons margarine, melted

2 tablespoons cajun seasoning

1/2 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

1/2 lb lump blue crab meat

1 pint heavy whipping cream

1/2 lb parmesan cheese, grated

2 green onions, chopped

1/2 teaspoon garlic, chopped

1 teaspoon unsalted butter

4 ounces seafood stock or water

Place the catfish filets and the melted margarine in a flat dish, saturating the catfish completely.

Sprinkle cajun seasoning onto one side of the catfish filets, completely covering the filets with a coat of seasoning.

Place filets seasoning side down on a white hot cast iron skillet or griddle until edges of filets are white.

Sprinkle the same amount of seasoning on the exposed side of the filets as you did in the previous process and turn with spatula.

Cook until filet meat is completely cooked but moist, with a blackened exterior coat of spices.

Be cautious not to over cook as the blackening skillet is extremely hot.

Place the butter, garlic, green onions, shrimp and crab into a two quart saucepan. Gently sauté until lightly browned.

Add the seafood stock.

Cook until shrimp are just pink.

Lower heat and add heavy whipping cream. Cook while stirring constantly until a gentle boil.

Add more seafood seasoning to season to taste, mild or spicy.

Add parmesan cheese to thicken.

Remove from heat.

To serve, place a catfish filet on the center of the plate, completely covering it with the sauce. If desired, the catfish can be served over a bed of dirty or white rice.

I have heard the best about la mer. moisturizer first, then sunblock. :)
I've used clinique products and did not like them at all, but that's just my opinion. I felt they were way over rated and didn't do what they were supposed to do.

Personally, I think mary kay makes some great skin care products for anti-aging benefits and moisturization. They also have great products to reverse the signs of aging. Also they're not very expensive. Another plus with mary kay products is that you can always have samples to try before you buy so you won't be stuck with a bunch of products that don't work for you.

I know I didn't address La Mer products, and that's only because I haven't used them.

I'm just telling you about the ones that I have used and are better products at the lesser cost to you. I have tried about every brand out there from the high dollar ones to the really inexpensive.

As far as which to put on first, always put your sunscreen on first, and your moisturizer on last.

And if you would like to get age fighting moisturizer and sunscreen all in one, merle norman makes one called Luxiva preventage firming defense creme SPF 15. I have used this for several years and had great results with it too.

I've also had some good results with estee lauder products, the only problem with them is some products have fragrance added to them and that can irritate your skin.

I hope this will help you and not confuse you! I could get on a roll and talk for hours about skin care.

I would really consider trying the mary kay products and the merle norman moisturuzer and sunscreen all in one. they really work! good luck to you!!

apply sunscreen first always. What product works better for you is the one to use. People's skin react differntly to differnt moistiurisers. You don't have to use an expensive moistirues either..there are many just as good, or even better drug store brands out there. Save your money!..

I'm getting married in the summer and want my skin to look its best. I was thinking of buying one of the high end face creams but not sure of which one.

There both very sucessful face products, but I suggest Creame de la mer. It clears your skin, AND gives it a naturally glow. Plus, Creame de la mer has more skin options than La Parairie.

Also, I suggest you take skin vitamins. They work very well, and over a clear complextion and shorter belmishes. If you do both, your skin will look fantastic!La Prairie or Creme de la mer?
Different skins need different cream. Go and sample both, and see what works for you.
Both are very good. I personally prefer La Prairie.
Creme de la mer is REALLY thick and fairly greasy. i read alot about it before i tried it so i knew the pros and cons, and when i got it i could really only use it on my drier spots on my face or else i would get too oily.

So i would recommend it for spot use on dry areas on the face, not as a real all-over face cream UNLESS you have very dry skin then i have heard it works great. i have combination skin where my T is kind of normal and a bit on the oilier side but not much and my cheeks are typically drier, so i used it on my cheeks but that was almost it.

For my skin i have had good results with the la prairie serums and creams. You can probably get a sample of it to try first!
All that stuff is a con. There's no magic ingredient in creams. Whats it gonna do? Make up fair enough... but creams? nahhhh. Buy the 2 pound/(insert correct currency) pot and that'll do ya.

hi..funny you should ask this as just last night i was asking this same question to a nurse friend (who works with a plastic surgeon and does face rejuvenation) about this. i asked her if proactive skin lightening lotion was good (it has 2% hydroquinone which is the lightening ingredient in these ceams/lotions). she said it was ok, and also that they sold formulas with higher potentcies over the counter at places like walgreens...4% hydroquinone. also, a doctor can prescribe creams with higher concentrations of it. remember, as soon as you start using one of these lightening products, that it is essential that you were at least 30spf sunscreen if you are going to be out side for ANY length of time. these products make your skin way more susceptible, and if you do not protect it, then you will make the dark spots even worse. i have not tried the the De La Mer however. just thought you might want to know what i was told from a very good source. a good skin lightening product should NOT contain hydroquinone because this ingredient has been banned in europe and asia already due to its carcinogenic properties (can cause skin cancer).. other harmful lightening agnets to watch for are mercury and steroids.. i've tried a lot of skin whitening products and here's one with my best vote -

Oil soaks in faster giving you better, softer skin, and it's the best moisturizer, too. Just be careful on your face. Oils have the tendancy to clog sensitive pores, so you should use a gel, oil control moisturizer, like Clinique.

Does La Mer face cream really work? Or is it a big marketing scam?

I purchased it about 2 months ago. It's really works, my skin is combination (normal/oily) and I was sceptical of using it. But it didn't cause me break out and instead balanced my skin. You can see result the next morning after applying tonight. In the morning your skin looks supple and plumed up. I use it only in the evening as it too rich for me during the day. I did so many research before purchase but thought I'll give it a try by myself. Yes, it really works. In fact, I even asked a question on Yahoo, however nobody really knew just that is so expensive. But there are so many products on market that are even more expensive. You need just a pea-size of Cream de La Mer on your face. So a 2 oz. jar will last a year. I live in California and they don't advertize it at all.

La Mer was invented by somebody who had an accident resulting in the most severe burnings of his skin. That's when he invented this creme, as a way to make his scars look better.

I know the creme, I use it myself (very very rarely).

It is way too much for young skin. It is very heavy. I would only use it if you have super super dry skin.

Further, if you have sensitive skin, it may as again be too much for it.

It's actual purpose is to soften and make the appearance of scars better. It works there is no question but I would rather go for something like Idealist or Advanecd Night Repair by Estee Lauder, either of which may be way more apporpriate for your skin.

Don't overdo it. Your skin won't like it.

Edit: If you think your skin is sensitive and prone to break outs, don't use it. It will be too much for your skin and then you will break out.

Only if you have a six-figure salary.....its the biggest waist of money when you can purchase something that's 1/5th the cost and works as well. Celebrities claim it has amazing effects, but they're also paying for personal trainers, personal nutritionists, weekly facials, and personal chefs------so they don't need any help when their skin already looks good.
No its not worth it at all, its not because of the price its too heavy and thick and I have personally seen how it breaks out some people for me it made me very oily and greasy and I did not like it. I did however find excellent skincare products by bee luscious cosmetics. The quality is better than anything else at Saks. I will never use any other brand because of the most amazing results I have gotten. Try looking into their hydrating cream or their vital line everything is truly first rate. You will be thrilled with anything you buy from Bee luscious.

Yes, I had my wedding there! March, 2006.

The food is the absolutely best around..I received so many compliments about the food and service. They have a food tasting night so you can taste the food before you sign the contracts.

I also looked around at other places on LI and they had the best prices.

I highly recommend Chateau La Mer, I had a wonderful experience, the service, food, staff, everything was really nice.

EDIT: To the above comment, My cake was delicous, not dry at all. Chateau La Mer did provide the cake, it comes from The Black Forest Bakery in Lindenhurst, which I think is THE BEST bakery around...haven't found one even close.Live in Long Island, NY and wanted to know if anyone had their wedding at the Chateu la Mer?

I went to a wedding there last summer. The venue was very typical, but the food was terrible.

I dont know if they provide the cake or if the bride and groom bought it, but it was like sawdust.

And the chicken was still pink on the inside.

Mere de la Mer is great! I picked up a sample on Ebay about a month ago...There are people selling it on there off and on, just search under the name...Its alot smoother and absorbs better than Creme de la Mer I think...and its cheaper! :) But everyones skin is different...Just my two cents, but give it a try, its about 70 to 120$ for one I think....Hope that helps!

Which skin care products are better? Darphin or La Mer?

I want to buy a very good skin care line. Which one is more expensive, and which one is more effective?

I'm 20, I have mostly dry skin but also combination skin. I also break out now since I've stopped taking the pill.

Well I think La Mer is the better known brand, also it is more expensive but they do work. My mother has some Creme de la Mer products and they are fantastic although pricey but well worth it. Use Mary Kay - it's cheaper, and it's better for your skin.

What do you think about La Mer cosmetics?

I used to like it but they actually sold to Estee Lauder (I think...or some other major company) so figure you are basically buying department store cosmetics and they are filled with additives.

Skin Cueticals is AWESOME though. I started using it and love it but I have to go through a dermatologist to get it-- maybe you can order it online or try a sample.What do you think about La Mer cosmetics?
